Lauren Thomas, Miss Gadsden State 2011 Lauren Thomas of Southside was crowned the new Miss Gadsden State Community College 2011. Miss Thomas, the daughter of Scott and Karen Thomas, is a freshman majoring in communications. She received a two-semester scholarship to Gadsden State, a cash scholarship of $300 and numerous other prizes. She was crowned by Chasity Doster, Miss Gadsden State Community College 2010. Miss Thomas was also the recipient of the lifestyle and fitness award and the talent competition for which she received an additional $200 in cash scholarships. She will represent Gadsden State in the Miss Alabama Pageant in June held at Samford University. Her other duties will include representing the College at recruiting functions, campus activities and community events. Anna Beth Lowe of Oneonta was chosen first runner-up and received a $200 cash scholarship among other prizes. Carrying out the theme of “Ease on Down the Road,” the contestants entertained the audience with several production numbers along with performances by the Gadsden State Southern Belles and Ensemble. Five Gadsden State students competed for the title. Each contestant is required to have a service platform which supports a community charity or organization. The contestants performed a combined total of 463 service hours promoting their platforms and raised $1,125 in monies collected for various charities. |
